4th Annual Warrior Weekend in the heart of the High Country, NC
Join us in the breathtaking mountains of Western NC for our 4th Annual Warrior Weekend event.
This is shaping up to be a great event! In the past, we have had esteemed Master Instructors coming in from West Virginia, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and (of course) North Carolina to share their arts and expertise with us. Several disciplines have been represented, including: Tang Soo Do, Kendo, Aikido, Hapkido and knife defense. This year is shaping up to be just as great as the previous years as we expand our diverse group of instructors. Workshops are for everyone – regardless of experience. Beginners through Masters alike are welcome.
The purpose of this weekend is to bring together our martial arts friends for great training, networking, and Martial Arts community-building. As we often work mainly in our own schools, it is good to remember that there are many other people from all walks of life that have decided to embark upon similar journeys. It is even better to have the ability to meet, train and, socialize with these people! These three days are about shared learning and creating an extended martial arts family.
Our Warrior Weekend event will be hosted at Grandfather Campground, located at 125 Profile View Rd., Banner Elk, NC 28604. We will be camping and training in a large open field that has 5 fire pits, three grills, a number of picnic tables, and a small playground for the younger children. For your convenience, we will be located right next to the showers and bathrooms. We also will have a number of yard games set up around the field for your enjoyment over the course of the weekend.
We recommend bringing something for shade, as we will be in a large, open field. Don’t forget hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug spray as well. You will need a tent, your own food, LOTS of fluids (as we will be training hard and having lots of fun), chairs, grills, and anything else you would normally bring to camp. A grocery store and drug store are located within miles of the campground in Banner Elk, should you need to pick up any last minute supplies.
Camping in the CGMAA-reserved field is free of charge to you. However, if you would like to have your own private camp site or RV site, you can rent one by going to www.grandfatherrv.com. There is no cost for clinics.
Warrior Weekend training is about learning application of traditional techniques; as such, training will be done in a slightly different format than formal classes. You will be asked to empty your cup of knowledge and refill it anew. With this in mind, we do not wear uniform or display rank. We are all students with a beginner’s mindset at this event. Please plan to wear clothing that allows for free movement and overall comfort. For anyone who is interested, event T-Shirts are available for pre-order.
The deadline for camp registration and T-Shirt orders is July 1, 2018
This is a free event. All instructors are volunteering their time and expertise. We would like to thank each and every one of them for sharing in Martial Spirit with us.
We would also like to thank Kyle and Brandi Young for generously hosting this annual event at their campground. We deeply appreciate having a safe and hospitable space for this gathering.
Tent camping in the “Warrior Field” is free of charge. If you would like a private campsite or an RV site visit www.grandfatherrv.com to book your spot.
